Saturday online meeting with Ajahn Munissarā.
We warmly invite you to a special meeting with the Sangha, an opportunity to pause, take a breath, and deepen your practice together. Ajahn Munissarā will offer a Dhamma talk, sharing her experience and insight, inspiring us toward mindful presence and reflection on everyday life. This is a time to feel the support of the community and to immerse yourself in a shared spiritual space with fellow practitioners.
Ajahn Munissarā was born in 1978 in Manila, Philippines, into a Thai family. She grew up mainly in the Philippines and later also lived in Bangladesh and the United States. From an early age, she was interested in the spiritual dimension of life, and her first experiences with Buddhism came through her mother, who introduced her to chanting and meditation.
During her studies at Harvard University, she began to search more deeply for answers to questions about the meaning of life and the nature of happiness. She was especially influenced by the teachings of Buddhadasa Bhikkhu, which showed her that the essence of the Buddha’s teaching is the understanding of suffering and the path leading to its cessation.
After several years of lay life, work, and meditation practice, she increasingly felt a calling to monastic life. In 2009, she ordained as a sāmaṇerī (novice nun) at Nirodharam Bhikkhuni Arama in Chiang Mai, Thailand. In 2012, she received full bhikkhunī ordination at Dhammasara Nuns Monastery near Perth, Australia, where she currently lives and practices. There, she regularly offers reflections on the Dhamma (the Buddha’s teaching) and leads guided meditations for lay visitors. She has also taught Dhamma in Buddhist centers in Perth and in various locations in Thailand, including monasteries, schools, and a prison.
Ajahn Munissarā emphasizes that monastic life and the practice of sīla (ethical discipline) create supportive conditions for the deep development of mindfulness and wisdom. She is actively engaged in the development of the female Sangha and in sharing the Dhamma, especially inspiring women on the spiritual path. She has also co-led programs and retreats for Buddhist youth at Chiang Mai University.
