Online meeting with Ajahn Sona

Saturday online meeting with Ajahn Sona.

We warmly invite you to the first online meeting in Poland with the Theravāda Buddhist teacher Ajahn Sona.

Ajahn Sona was ordained during the first wave of Western interest in Theravāda and is currently the abbot of Birken Forest Monastery in Canada. After more than thirty years in robes, his close students refer to him as “Luang Por” (“Venerable Father”) — a traditional title given to senior monks in the Thai forest tradition.

After several years of practice as a lay hermit, the young Bhikkhu Sona received full monastic ordination in 1989 under the guidance of Bhante Henepola Gunaratana Mahathera at the first Theravāda forest monastery in the United States (The Bhavana Society, West Virginia). He later entered the Thai forest tradition and trained for several years in the monasteries of Ajahn Chah in northeastern Thailand.

Today, Ajahn Sona draws in his teachings from both the Buddhist traditions of Sri Lanka and the Thai scholastic and meditative traditions, as well as from modern Western sensibilities. His pre-monastic education in philosophy, the humanities, and Western classical music has helped him understand the Western psyche and establish bridges between East and West.

Ajahn Sona is also deeply interested in ecological movements in these critical environmental times, both on a practical and philosophical level. The off-grid monastery he has carefully developed over the past two decades incorporates the latest technologies and principles of ecological design.

We invite everyone — both beginners and experienced practitioners.

We also warmly encourage you to explore Ajahn Sona’s teachings on the Polish channel Ajahn Sona PL as well as on his official Ajahn Sona channel.
