Saturday online meeting with Ajahn Sunyo.
Ajahn Sunyo was born in the Netherlands, growing up in the shadow of windmills, among tulip fields and cheese. He became interested in Buddhism and meditation toward the end of high school. After twenty-six years of unrestrained headbanging, mathematics, playing The Sims, and many other distractions, he decided to improve the quality of his life. In 2013, after completing his studies, he moved to Bodhinyana Monastery to become a monk. On the day of his ordination, he met the best friend of his life — his robes — and hopes he will never have to part with them.
Bhikkhu Sunyo has spent most of his time since then at Bodhinyana and, as he says, lives a good life. He also has extensive knowledge and experience in the Pāli language; for the past six years he has been teaching Pāli at Bodhinyana Monastery. In February 2020, he gave his first talk at the Dhammaloka Buddhist Centre, which was very well received. Since then, he has delivered several short Dhamma talks during the Covid-19 lockdown.
In October 2020, he co-led a series of workshops on early Buddhism — Dependent Origination — with Ajahn Brahmali. Ajahn Sunyo is grateful to all who have supported him, especially those who have provided him with food and shelter, giving him the opportunity to undertake this spiritual journey.
