Sunday online meeting with Ayya Tisaranī.
We warmly invite you to another meeting in our Sunday online series, during which Ayya Tisaranī will share teachings of the Dhamma. Ayya Tisaranī is the first fully ordained Polish Buddhist nun (bhikkhuṇī) in the Theravāda tradition.
Ayya Tisaranī has been living at Sirisampanno Monastery since 2015. She took refuge in the Mahāyāna tradition in 1997 and, with her family’s consent, went forth from home into homelessness in 2011. She lived and practiced intensively in a natural garden for one year. In subsequent years, she practiced in Germany, France, and Thailand. Her sāmaṇerī ordination took place on March 23, 2019, in the Theravāda tradition in Sri Lanka, in the presence of thirty fully ordained monks and ten nuns. She received upasampadā—full ordination as a bhikkhuṇī—from Venerable Ayya Tathālokā Mahātherī on September 19, 2021, at Aranya Bodhi Hermitage in California. Bhavana Society in West Virginia, USA, is her second monastery, where she stays and practices each year with Bhante Gunaratana.
