Saturday online meeting with Ayyā Somā.
We warmly invite you to a special online meeting with Ayya Soma.
This is a unique opportunity to meet a teacher who combines deep Dhamma practice with lived experience in the West, particularly in Italy.
Topic of the meeting
“AAA: Anxiety, Anatta and Awakening – deconstructing the ‘I’ in the emotional storm”
About the teacher
Ayya Soma is an Italian Buddhist nun and co-founder, together with Bhante Suddhāso, of the Empty Cloud Monastery in New Jersey (USA).
She grew up in Italy and later moved to New York, where she developed a career as an editor in the fashion and lifestyle field. Her first deeper encounter with Buddhist monasticism took place at Santacittārāma Monastery in Italy, within the Ajahn Chah tradition. A pivotal moment on her spiritual path was meeting Bhante Suddhāso in 2015.
In 2016, she began a life of renunciation; in 2018, she took monastic ordination; and in 2020, she received full bhikkhunī ordination. Prior to that, as a lay practitioner, she co-founded the organization Buddhist Insights in New York, supporting the development of the community and connections between laypeople and monastics.
In recent years, due to family circumstances, she has begun spending part of her time again in Italy, where she has observed a growing interest in the Dhamma and a need for establishing a monastery. Currently, together with others, she is working on the creation of Empty Cloud Italia—a monastery in southern Italy, planned on a forested property.
We welcome everyone, both beginners and experienced practitioners.
Join us and spend this time in a spirit of mindfulness and metta.
We also recommend the teachings of Ayyā Somā available on the YouTube channels: “Empty Cloud Italia” “Buddhist Insights @ Empty Cloud”
