You are warmly invited to a Saturday online meeting with Bhikkhunī Dhammadinnā.
Bhikkhunī Dhammadinnā was born in Italy in 1980 and entered the monastic path in Sri Lanka in 2012. She studied Indology, Indo-Iranian philology, and Tibetan studies at the University of “L’Orientale” in Naples, at the International Research Institute for Advanced Buddhology at Soka University in Tokyo, and at the Institute for Research in Humanities at Kyoto University.
She obtained her Master’s degree in 2004 with a thesis that included an edition, translation, and analysis of a Bonpo gter ma text, as well as a study of its revealer (gter ston) in the context of the formation of the Bonpo canon. In 2010, she completed her PhD with a dissertation on the Khotanese Book of Zambasta and the development of Mahāyāna ideology in Khotan during the 5th and 6th centuries.
Her main research interests include early Buddhist discourses and Vinaya texts (monastic discipline), as well as the development of theories, practices, and ideologies within Buddhist meditative traditions. She is currently working on the Tibetan text Abhidharmakośopāyikā-ṭīkā and conducting comparative research on quotations from the Āgamas found in this work.
Bhikkhunī Dhammadinnā is a co-founder of the Āgama Research Group, serves as the editor of its publication series, and coordinates translations into modern languages.
In addition to her academic work, she has been practicing meditation since 1996 and has been teaching worldwide since 2017.
